Course Description
The Heartsaver CPR AED course is designed to teach individuals the fundamental skills needed to perform CPR and effectively use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in emergency situations. The Heartsaver CPR AED course is geared towards individuals who require a course completion card for job, regulatory, or other requirements. It is suitable for laypersons, such as daycare providers, fitness trainers, teachers, security guards, and anyone interested in learning basic life-saving skills.
The Heartsaver CPR AED course provides essential training in CPR, AED use, and choking relief, equipping participants with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively to cardiac emergencies. It is a valuable course for both professional and personal preparedness in life-saving techniques.
Course Outline

CPR Skills: Participants will learn how to recognize and respond to cardiac arrest, including:
- Performing high-quality chest compressions
- Providing rescue breaths using mouth-to-mouth or a barrier device
- Using an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely and effectively

AED Skills: Instruction on how to use an AED to defibrillate a cardiac arrest victim, including:
- Proper placement of AED pads on the chest
- Understanding and following AED prompts and instructions
- Continuing CPR after AED use until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel arrive

Choking Relief: Techniques for relieving choking in adults, children, and infants, if necessary.

Optional Modules: Some courses may include additional modules such as first aid basics or other relevant topics.
Learner Outcomes
The course combines hands-on practice and video-based instruction to ensure participants learn and retain the necessary skills effectively.Notes
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Have hair pulled up so it does not interfere while practicing compressions. You will be expected to complete compressions with an manikin on the floor. There are usually no prerequisites for taking the Heartsaver CPR AED course. It is open to anyone interested in learning basic CPR and AED skills.
