9009 - Basic Life Support (BLS)
Course Description
The BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate breaths and ventilations, and provide early use of an AED.Course Outline
High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants; BLS concepts from the Chain of Survival; Delivering effective breaths or ventilations; Importance of early use of and how to use an AED; Performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR; Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults, children, and infantsLearner Outcomes
The course learning outcomes for the Basic Life Support (BLS) provider course focus on mastering life-saving emergency response skills for adults, children, and infants. After completing the BLS course, students are able to: 1) Describe high-quality CPR: Understand the critical importance of high-quality chest compressions and their direct impact on patient survival. 2) Apply the Chain of Survival: Identify and execute all steps of the Chain of Survival concepts for cardiac arrest. 3) Recognize emergencies: Quickly identify signs of someone needing CPR or experiencing a life-threatening airway obstruction. 4) Perform CPR: Deliver high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation for adults, children, and infants with proper compression depth, rate, and recoil. Use an AED: Demonstrate the early and safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator. 5) Provide effective ventilations: Give proper breaths using barrier devices, pocket masks, and bag-valve-mask (BVM) systems. 6) Manage choking: Execute relief techniques for foreign-body airway obstructions in victims of any age. 7) Practice team dynamics: Perform effectively as both a team member and a leader in multi-rescuer resuscitation scenarios.Notes
